In partnership with the municipality of Manaus, MSF runs an isolation and observation center for indigenous Warao people with mild cases of COVID-19. As a large part of this population, who came from Venezuela to Brazil, lives in shelters in the city, Warao people are especially vulnerable to the disease due to the difficulty of maintaining adequate measures of hygiene and social distancing. The isolation center opened in Manaus has the capacity to support and to assist nine families simultaneously. The space was adequate with tents, hammocks, tables and chairs, as well as sanitation adjustments in order to help hygiene maintenance.

تأكيد مقتل 15 أمّ في الهجوم على قسم الأمومة في كابول

Dayana Tabbarah, MSF health promoter, is talking to an elderly woman in the streets of Burj al-Barajneh camp, Beirut. Dayana has been working with MSF for the past six years. “Talking to people in the streets and listening to their medical concerns has changed since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, we must maintain a social distance of two meters to follow the protection measures”, she says. “In the past years, we have built up a good and strong relation with the camp’s residents, so we are able to work, support and help Burj al-Barajneh´s community”. Dayana visits the houses of residents who had agreed to participate in the shielding approach recently put in place by MSF in the camp, as part of its COVID-19 response. المرشدة الصحية مع منظّمة أطباء بلا حدود دايانا طبارة تتحدّث إلى امرأة مسنة في شوارع مخيم برج البراجنة في بيروت. تعمل دايانا مع أطباء بلا حدود منذ ستّ سنوات؛ وتقول، "لقد تغيّرت طريقة الحديث مع الناس في الشوارع والاستماع إلى مشاكلهم الطبية منذ انتشار جائحة كوفيد-19. يتعيّن علينا اليوم تنفيذ التباعد الاجتماعي المتمثل في الحفاظ على مسافة مترَين بيننا بغية اتباع إجراءات الحماية". وتُردف قائلةً، "في السنوات الماضية، بنينا علاقة جيدة وقوية مع سكان المخيم، ولذلك نحن قادرون على العمل مع مجتمع برج البراجنة ودعمه ومساعدته". تزور ديانا بانتظام منازل المرضى الذين وافقوا على المشاركة في برنامج الحماية الوقائية الذي وضعته منظّمة أطباء بلا حدود مؤخراً في المخيم كجزء من استجابتها لمرض كوفيد-19.

Twins Elisabeth and Sophie, were first treated for measles and then for acute malnutrition at the MSF-supported pediatric unit at the Baboua district Hospital. “Nobody had ever come to our village to visit our children, we had never heard of measles before. I have spent my whole life in my village, this is the first time I have come to a hospital” Cecile (mother) says. “Elizabeth and Sophie have been the first children in my community who contracted measles: they have been treated with traditional medicine first, we didn’t’ know what they were suffering from. But they were not feeling better and that’s why I brought them to the vaccination, I hoped I could find some help” Cecile explained. Cécile comes from a very remote village on the axe Galo-Zaoro, where MSF emergency teams carried out a vaccination campaign on 14th/15th March, 2020. During the vaccination MSF teams visited the little twins and referred them to the closest health centre, for a first medical screening, and from there to Baboua, because the little girls presented complications due to measles.

MSF works in Nablus since 2004, providing psychotherapeutic and psychiatric assistance, group therapy, group mental health awareness sessions and psychosocial support activities in two clinics in Nablus and Qalqylia and in a new consultation room opened in Tubas in December 2019. In 2002, the Israeli Government launched the construction of a barrier in and around the West Bank with the stated purpose of preventing violent attacks by Palestinians in Israel. Land for construction of Barrier sections inside the West Bank has been requisitioned from Palestinian landowners. Approximately 65.3 per cent (465km) of the projected 712-kilometre-long structure has been completed, of which 85 per cent runs inside the West Bank.
