Patients visit health centres to see a doctor and collect medications. Many of the patients MSF teams have assisted in Hostomel suffer from chronic diseases such as asthma, hypertension or heart conditions. Pneumonia was also common after spending extended periods of time in basements in the cold, winter weather.

Roughly 200 people from two boats in distress were rescued on the morning of May 9. Everyone is now safe on board the Geo Barents while we continue the search for more boats in distress. Right after the rescue we saw the Libyan Coast Guard navigating at a very close distance from the Geo Barents.

Juliette, 23, is pregnant and the mother of two children aged 5 and 2.
She is a rice, coffee and pepper farmer.
 Juliette lives in the "fokontany" (neighbourhood) of Ambodiriana, an hour's walk from the Ambodirian'i Sahafary health centre, where she came for a medical consultation.
 Her house and those of her neighbours were ravaged by the cyclone Batsirai. His rice, coffee and pepper crops were also destroyed. Normally, the rice was to be harvested in April.
 She says:
"During the cyclone, we took refuge in a smaller house because the larger ones were blown away. The wind blew violently, and we were not able to anticipate the consequences by reinforcing the houses, nor by storing food.
  Without money, we can't do anything. If health care wasn't free, we wouldn't go to the doctor. You do the doctor yourself."

Kybartai is one of the three Foreigner Registration Centers (FRC) for asylum seekers and migrants in Lithuania. Since January 2022, MSF teams have been providing primary health care and psychological support in two of the three centers, in Kybartai (Vilkaviskis District), and Medininkai (Vilnius District). According to national legislation, people’s freedom of movement in FRCs is restricted for one year and can be extended to 18 months on a case-by-case basis.

Kybartai, a prison that was under the Ministry of Justice, became a State Border Guards (SBG) Foreigner Registration Centre for single men in September 2021, without any major renovations to the facility. It is estimated that 420 men are currently detained here. Across its four floors, people are separated by nationality. Within Kybartai there is a section for more severe detention (Corpus B), where an estimated 40 men are held because they are accused of a crime or because they are “trouble makers”. They have access to cooking facilities and an indoor shower. Individuals in Corpus B are not allowed outside, except for a small closed off area, and are accompanied to the market by SBGs.

The catastrophic flash flooding that ensued on 11 April in the eThekwini region in South Africa’s KwaZulu-Natal Province has left 40,000 people homeless and many are sheltering in community-based schools, churches and halls without food, cookware, mattresses, blankets, clothes and basic hygiene products. MSF has provided kits comprising these non-food items to more than 500 individuals, and to free shelter residents from dependence on food packs MSF has equipped three community shelters with kitchenware including stoves, fridges and freezers.

Dilaram, 33, a former TB-PRACTECAL clinical trial patient in Nukus, got cured from TB in 2018. On the clinical trial regimen her treatment lasted only 6 months (a quite short period of time compared to the standard 20-24 months DR TB regimens). After her recovery Dilaram was able to return to her work as a nurse at the Emergency Hospital in Operation Ward, and in 2020 gave birth to a son.
