Next-generation sequencing (NGS) machine in the MSF managed laboratory in Nukus. NGS is a new technique which allows to analyse every gene in TB bacteria DNA. This technique provides information on mutations of resistance to TB drugs. MSF renovated and equipped a mycobacteriological laboratory biosafety level 3 in Nukus and introduced advanced rapid TB diagnostics technologies. The laboratory has the capacity for conducting culture tests, drug sensitivity tests and sputum smear quality control. The laboratory carries out the second-line drug sensitivity tests (DST). Introduction of NGS is also planned for Nukus laboratory.

Achan arrived by ambulance after being bitten by a snake. It happened at night when Achan had gone to fetch water. She was attacked by a snake on her way. She was immediately taken to intensive care at the hospital in Abyei supported by Médecins Sans Frontières. She underwent surgery to remove necrotic tissue and was given an antidote. “The snake was very poisonous because shortly after the bite I felt itching and began to swell”. The woman has two children, one of whom came to the hospital with her because she is still breastfeeding. Achan’s mother also came with her. “I didn't see the snake because it was dark, but from the pain I immediately realised that it couldn't have been a common insect”.

Amman, Jordan. 27 August, 2024. Karam, 17, from Nuseirat Camp in central Gaza, during a physiotherapy session at MSFÕs Reconstructive Surgery Hospital in Amman, Jordan. Karam nearly died after his familyÕs house was leveled by an Israeli airstrike. He suffered severe burns to his face and other areas of his body, and also suffered a serious injury to his arm. He is receiving comprehensive reconstructive surgery and physiotherapy at the MSF hospital in Amman.

Kutupalong Refugee Camp, Rohingya Response: Shofi Mohammad (4 years) is getting treatment for multiple abscesses in axilla and back in the ER of the MSF Kutupalong hospital. While Dr. Hasna Hena Mou and Medical Assistant Rajib Mazumdar are doing an incision and drainage, his father Anas Mohammad (50 years) tries to comfort him. The mother of Shofi and his brother are waiting outside. The family went to another health facility first, but they couldn't perform the procedure, that's why Shofi was referred to the MSF Kutupalong hospital.
