Daily life in one of the squats near Velika Kladusa where migrans and asylum seekers stay. Migrants and asylum seekers are concentrated around Bihac and Velika Kladusa in Bosnia attempting to cross the border to Croatia. People there have to face extremely harsh living conditions and violence allegedly caused by border authorities.
MSF in collaboration with the local medical authorities provide medical and mental health services to the people living in Vucjak camp. Our medical team sees in this clinic around 30 patients per day. MSF runs another small clinic in Velika Kladusa for people who stay in squats. The main morbidities our teams are treating are wounds, skin infections, upper and lower respiratory tract infections, hypothermia and frostbites. All symptoms are results of violence and bad living conditions.

In these two camps MSF provides chronic diseases treatment, mental health care, sexual and gender-based violence as well as health promotion services.

On 04 June, a missile strike hit a town centre in Idlib Governorate, northern Syria, and between 3pm and 7pm 130 wounded patients arrived at the small 12-bed facility. 80 were treated in the hospital, and 50 were referred to another medical facility as the nearest hospital became overwhelmed. In addition to its two clinics in Lashio and Muse, MSF also runs mobile clinics at Lashio and Hsipaw prisons and has emergency response capacity in case of natural disasters or population displacements as a result of fighting in Shan’s longstanding conflict.

Jamal, 62, is a Palestinian residing in Nahr Al-Bared camp, in North Lebanon. Jamal studied mechanical engineering in the United States of America, but he could not practice the profession when he came back to Lebanon. He was forced to find any job to support his family, which had an impact on his mental health.
“I suffered from anxiety, depression, and phobia. I was scared to go out of the house. One day, a friend told me about Médecins sans Frontières, so I visited their clinic. I’ve received psychological support sessions from their psychologist, and a doctor prescribes my medication,” says Jamal. “I don’t have to worry about buying my medication because MSF provides them for me on a monthly basis, or else I would have to pay more than 100 USD per month. After one year of therapy, I am now much better. I can go out on my own; my fears disappeared.”
Jamal received mental health consultations and pharmacological treatment in MSF clinic in Abdeh, Akkar, as part of the Mental Health Gap program which MSF is implementing since 2017. This program is based on training physicians on how to prescribe medication for some of the patients suffering from mental disorders where needed, under the supervision of an external psychiatrist and in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team.
