In June 2007, Israel and Egypt imposed a land, air and sea blockade on the Gaza Strip. The collapse of Gaza’s economy and movement restrictions have been compounded by successive wars against this tiny blockaded stretch of land by Israeli military forces. The lives of a whole generation born in the 2000s have been punctuated by airstrikes, occupation, protests and shortages. Either injured themselves, or friends or relatives of wounded patients treated by Médecins Sans Frontières teams, Abdullah, Aseel, Nermin, Shams and Yasmin describe teenage life in Gaza.

À l’effondrement économique et aux restrictions de mouvements viennent s’ajouter les multiples guerres et représailles menées par l’armée israélienne sur le territoire enclavé. في يونيو/حزيران، سلمت أطباء بلا حدود أنشطتها الطبية لوزارة الصحة السودانية المعنية بالاستجابة الطارئة التي أطلقتها في عام 2017 بعد تفشي الإسهال المائي الحاد في مخيم كاريو للاجئين في ولاية شرق دارفور.

New displaced people arrive in large numbers with their belongings to Ain Issa IDP camp, one of the largest in the area. The camp is a home for people coming from with refugees from Raqqa, Deir Ezzor but also people from Iraq.

MSF have a vaccination team in the camp to provide measles and routine EPI vaccinations to vaccinate children under five. Moreover, MSF teams are now managing the Out Patient Department (OPD) ,which provides primary care, chronic disease consultations and physiotherapy.

Gorom Gorom (Sahel region of Burkina Faso): a camp for internally displaced people with limited access to basic resources such as water and food. Access to health care also remains challenging for those who have lost everything in their escape from armed conflict.

On the afternoon of June 27, the MSF team rescued 71 people from a rubber boat in distress. 22 people are missing, three persons were stabilized, including very young children, and one women died later on board after 30 minutes of resuscitation. A woman and her baby in critical state were also evacuated to Malta during the same night. This is another tragic rescue in the Central Mediterranean and everyone is in a very weak condition and traumatized. The MSF medical team on board is looking after the survivors until disembarkation in a place of safety.
