Mothers tend to their babies suffering from malnutrition inside the MSF-supported inpatient therapeutic feeding center at Abs general hospital, Hajjah governorate. We are seeing a lot of caretakers in the inpatient therapeutic feeding centre who are themselves malnourished in Abs hospital. This is due to food insecurity in Yemen. If a woman is malnourished, it is hard for her to support her baby. The risk of malnourished mothers giving birth to babies who are themselves susceptible to malnutrition is clear from MSF’s nutritional programme in Abs, where 24 per cent of all admissions in 2023 were children under six months old.

People are getting water from the MSF distribution point in Metche camp. The distribution point is refilled twice a day. In November, the Metche camp is receiving some 6 litres a water per person daily, which is far below the recommended World Health Organisations 20 liters per person per day. Metche camp is some 40 kilometers from Adré, the main entry and settlement town for refugees and returnees coming from Sudan. Almost 40,000 people have been resettled to Metche from Adré.
