A hospital supported by Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is destroyed by an aerial bombing in Millis town, Idlib Governorate, Syria on Saturday 06 August. Killing four hospital staff and nine others, including children. The hospital was struck with two direct (and two in the immediate vicinity) aerial strikes at around 2:00pm local time. Six other hospital staff were wounded. The bombing substantially destroyed the building, and the hospital is currently closed. This comes in the midst of an escalation in intensity of conflict in Idlib Governorate.

يعيش أكثر من نصف مليون شخص ضمن ظروف كارثية وغير صحية في عدة قرى وبلدات منتشرة في ولاية بورنو الواقعة في شمال شرق نيجيريا، وفق ما صرحت به منظمة أطباء بلا حدود، وتدعو المنظمة إلى تقديم الإغاثة الطارئة إلى هؤلاء الذين هم تحت الخطر المباشر. بيان صحفي - 27 يوليو/تموز 2016
 
There are more than 4,400 patients with renal failure in Yemen who are struggling to get weekly dialysis sessions to stay alive. To avoid potential death, patients rely on machines to clean their blood, something normally done by functioning kidneys. Those living with kidney failure normally should attend dialysis treatment sessions three times per week at four hours per session. In order for patients to receive treatment, treatment centres have to be functioning and supplies must be available. Most of the functioning dialysis centers in Yemen lack supplies causing interruptions in treatment to patients in need. And because of the pressure on the dialysis centres, most renal failure patients now receive only two weekly sessions instead of three in order for the dialysis centers to be able to accommodate all the patients they are receiving.

كارثة صحيّة في ولاية بورنو

بلغ الوضع الصحي في ولاية بورنو شمال شرق نيجيريا مستوىً حرجاً، فهناك 500,000 شخص على الأقل من النازحين أو المعزولين عن العالم في المناطق المحاصرة خارج العاصمة ميدوغوري، وهم بأمسّ الحاجة إلى الغذاء والرعاية الطبية ومياه الشرب والمأوى. وتقول الدكتورة إيزابيل ديفورني، مديرة العمليات في منظمة أطباء بلا حدود بأنّ على "وكالات الإغاثة أن تبدأ بتنفيذ عمليات إغاثةٍ واسعة استجابةً لهذه الكارثة الصحية". بيان صحفي - 20 يوليو/تموز 2016

Community Care Giver Nonhlanhla Ngema passes a long queue of patients at Eshowe Gateway Clinic to pick up ARVs for members of her Community ART Group (CAG). Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) has been piloting CAGs as a model of care for stable HIV+ patients in rural districts of southern Africa, where HIV prevalence is at its highest. CAG members meet once every two months to review their health and arrange for collection of their ARVs without having to sit in long queues at clinics.

"This is the first time MSF has been able to access Bama, but we already know the needs of the people there are beyond critical,” said Ghada Hatim, MSF head of mission in Nigeria. “We are treating malnourished children in medical facilities in Maiduguri and see the trauma on the faces of our patients who have witnessed and survived many horrors.” During its assessment, the MSF team counted 1233 cemetery graves located near the camp which had been dug in the past year. Many of those graves—480—were of children “Bama is largely closed off,” said Hatim. “We have been told that people including children there half starved to death. According to the accounts given to MSF by displaced people in Bama new graves are appearing on a daily basis. We were told more than 30 people are dying a day due to hunger and illness.”

Malakal: MSF teams in Malakal worked through the nights of Wednesday and Thursday to deal with injured patients after fighting erupted in the Protection of Civilians (PoC) site on Wednesday that resulted in 18 people dead, two of them MSF South Sudanese staff members. Seventy-three patients have been admitted so far to the hospital, 46 of them with gunshot wounds. One of MSF’s main concerns is the fate of 43,000 internally displaced people (IDPs) who took shelter in the UNMISS compound. They have been squeezed into a very tight area and access to water and sanitation is of real concern. MSF does not know how long they will be permitted to remain in the facility.

Abu Jaber, 36, came to the Greek island of Samos with his 31-year-old wife Madiha and their young children. They were fleeing Syria's Aleppo after their house was destroyed. "We were lucky because we weren't home when a Russian air raid flattened our home three months ago," Abu Jaber told MSF. "I thought we would find mercy in Europe, but it's even harder for us than it was in Syria.
