The MSF hospital in Agok is the only facility providing secondary care in the entire Abyei region of South Sudan. This structure deals with emergencies, surgeries, treatments of HIV, tuberculosis, chronic diseases as well as neglected diseases, such as snake bites, a real scourge in the region. In 2019, in order to improve the quality of care, a radiology room was set up and the pharmacy was extended. A lack of specialized structures in the surrounding states forces some patients to travel very long distances to get to Agok hospital, some have to walk for up to 10 hours. This phenomenon illustrates the need for a comprehensive hospital in a country where health care is almost non-existent

Amman, Jordan. 27 August, 2024. 8 year-old Hazam walks next to her mother Eman and sister Dima on a hallway in MSFÕs Reconstructive Surgery Hospital in Amman, Jordan. Hazam was severely injured on 10 October, 2023, when the house next to his was bombed. Hazam was on the street when a metal object fell on his leg, injuring him. His eldest brother, Hamza, 14, was killed in the attack, and his sister Dima suffered serious injuries.

Mothers are waiting for the distribution of mosquito nets after the vaccination of their child at the Rugombo health centre, Cibitoke district. At this health centre, as in around 20 others across the district, each child receives four doses of the RTS,S malaria vaccine between the ages of six and 18 months. At the time of the first vaccination, families are also given an insecticide-treated mosquito net. Between the ages of nine and 24 months, children receive additional protection through sulfadoxine-pyrimethamine tablets, a method known as perennial malaria chemoprevention (PMC).

Khalima Mamutova, a state lab microbiologist and former MSF staff next to the Targeted Next-Generation Sequencing (tNGS) machine in the laboratory in the city of Nukus, the republic of Karakalpakstan in western Uzbekistan. This state-of-the-art lab, developed in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and MSF, is equipped with tools like GeneXpert and tNGS for rapid, precise TB diagnostics.

Restrictive immigration policies such as Title 42 have serious consequences on the migrant population. An example of this is the current situation in Plaza de la República in Reynosa, north-eastern Mexico, where more than 2,000 people from the Northern Triangle of Central America are living in tents in open air, in deplorable conditions of habitat and security, after being expelled from the United States when they were seeking protection. MSF provides primary health and mental health services, as well as support in providing clean water for the population in the Plaza de la Republica.
