Akobo , Jonglei State, cholera response A cholera treatment unit. An ongoing cholera outbreak is spreading through northern and Eastern South Sudan, spilling into Ethiopia. In Akobo, Jonglei State, South Sudan, MSF teams set up an emergency cholera response to support the efforts of the ministry of health since early March. In less than three weeks, MSF had treated more than 300 cases.

Sameera Abkir, 25, is examined by MSF doctors at the Romalia mobile clinic in West Darfur. She developed an arm infection due to a poorly administered injection following a home delivery. January 2025.
 12 days after giving birth at home, she visited the Romalia mobile clinic to have both her baby and herself checked. She arrived with her husband on a cart pulled by a donkey. Upon arrival, she was running a high fever and had a wound on her arm. She explained that following the home delivery, she had experienced severe abdominal pain, and her brother had purchased a medication for her, which was injected into her arm. She had pain in her arm and she couldn’t hold her baby properly. After conducting several tests, the doctors at the clinic discovered an infection in her arm. They promptly disinfected and dressed the wound and prescribed antibiotics for treatment.

Charles Baraka Chanung iyo, 18, was attacked by assailants as he was sleeping in his house. He suffered gunshot wounds to the arm and machete wounds to the wrist. That day, his sister-in-law and aunt were also wounded, and his wife was killed. He fled to the lake and was directed by fishermen to Angumu General Hospital (HGR), where he spent 6 days before being referred to the MSF-supported Salama Hospital in Bunia, which specializes in traumatology for the war-wounded. He stayed there for two weeks.

Les équipes MSF ont organisé des cliniques mobiles dans plusieurs localités reculées du Nord-Kivu afin d’évaluer les besoins des populations et d’apporter un soutien aux déplacés des camps de Goma revenus dans leur village d’origine. ENG MSF teams have organized mobile clinics in several remote localities in North Kivu to assess the needs of the population and provide support to displaced people from the Goma camps who have returned to their villages of origin.

MSF has been responding to requests for emergency medical assistance to people arriving by boat on the island of Samos since August 2021. MSF’s emergency response has shown the high medical and humanitarian needs amongst new arrivals. During our interventions, most people we assist are exhausted and severely distressed. A lot of them are dehydrated after spending a long time, sometimes several days, in the bush without access to food and water.

Commune of Ranobe, Amboasary District. People in the south-east of Madagascar are facing the most acute nutritional and food crisis the region has seen in recent years. MSF began setting up mobile clinics in Amboasary district in late March to screen and treat acute malnutrition in remote villages like those of Ranobe commune, providing ready-to-use therapeutic food and medical care.

As the epidemic emerged in Kagera, MSF mission officially offered our services and expertise to the MoH on three main pillars of the response: 1. Health Response Capacity: Deployment of medical teams and logistical resources to support case management, contact tracing, and health facility strengthening. 2. Training and Capacity Building: Collaborating with healthcare professionals on infection prevention and control (IPC) measures, as well as the management of patients in critical care. 3. Medical Supply : Providing Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) and other useful medical and non-medical devices. Following this, an experienced team in Oubtreak management was invited by the MoH to take part in the assessment of local response capacities that took place in January in Kagera, together with the WHO and other partners.
