The MSF hospital in Agok is the only facility providing secondary care in the entire Abyei region of South Sudan. This structure deals with emergencies, surgeries, treatments of HIV, tuberculosis, chronic diseases as well as neglected diseases, such as snake bites, a real scourge in the region. In 2019, in order to improve the quality of care, a radiology room was set up and the pharmacy was extended. A lack of specialized structures in the surrounding states forces some patients to travel very long distances to get to Agok hospital, some have to walk for up to 10 hours. This phenomenon illustrates the need for a comprehensive hospital in a country where health care is almost non-existent

It’s the first time he is admitted, and he went through nine surgeries so far. Now he is receiving antibiotic treatment. His mother is struggling to keep him isolated in his room as he is a very active child and would always want to go out.$

She says: " We were here when the demolition happened.
My daughters were here and the little kids. This happened for the first time in December [2021].
Then they came again in May [2022].
They demolished the house, twice in a short period of time [after rebuilding in-between].
They came to demolish some shelters here a month ago, at the beginning of July.
They come suddenly. They do not give notice.
We only see the bulldozers coming to our place.
and they demolish the tents."

She says:
" My name is Jamla Mohammad Ayoub Abu Sabha,
I am 37 years old.
I live in Khirbet Al-Fakhit.
Here, we had a room for the pigeon. there, we had a shelter that was constructed with Italian rocks for the guests.
We rebuilt the shelter again.
On 11 May 2022, they came and re-demolished them again.
It was very difficult situation for the kids, for everyone.
On 1 June 2022, they came back to demolish again.
The situation is difficult. We cannot build or do anything.
Imagine your son is sick and you want to take him to the doctor, but there is no car, and the road is long. If you want to go on foot, you will need a minimum of 4 hours. Even you, healthy, you end up sick. Imagine how the situation is? Kids get sick or someone gets sick at night. For kids or elderly people, the situation is difficult. We also have no public transportation".

After the Reception Center (RC) in Pirot reopened in November 2022, MSF started activities in the area in January 2023 with one mobile clinic providing primary health care, food and non-food items distribution.
