The MSF hospital in Agok is the only facility providing secondary care in the entire Abyei region of South Sudan. This structure deals with emergencies, surgeries, treatments of HIV, tuberculosis, chronic diseases as well as neglected diseases, such as snake bites, a real scourge in the region. In 2019, in order to improve the quality of care, a radiology room was set up and the pharmacy was extended. A lack of specialized structures in the surrounding states forces some patients to travel very long distances to get to Agok hospital, some have to walk for up to 10 hours. This phenomenon illustrates the need for a comprehensive hospital in a country where health care is almost non-existent

Dans la soirée du vendredi 4 au samedi 5 avril 2025, une vingtaine d’hommes armés appartenant au M23/AFC sont entrés dans l’enceinte de l’hôpital de Kyeshero à la recherche d’anciens combattants ayant trouvé refuge à l’intérieur de l’hôpital et ne souhaitant plus en sortir depuis plusieurs semaines. Au cours de cette opération, nos équipes ont été témoins de tirs. Une personne a été tuée, trois autres blessées. Deux membres du personnel de l’hôpital en service ont été frappés.

On the evening of Friday, April 4 to Saturday, April 5, 2025, about twenty armed men belonging to the M23/AFC entered the Kyeshero hospital compound in search of former combatants who had taken refuge inside the hospital and had not wanted to leave for several weeks. During this operation, our teams witnessed gunfire. One person was killed and three others were injured. Two hospital staff members on duty were beaten.

Fatima Mohamed, 37, holds the remains of a shell that hit her house in Hasahisa camp, Central Darfur, destroying it and killing her brother and his son. She currently lives in a straw hut in the courtyard of a school in Hamidya camp near Zalengei, the capital of Central Darfur.

"My name is Fatima Yousif Babeker Mohamed. This shell hit my home, killed my brother Suleiman Eshag and his son. It destroyed our house in Hasahisa camp. We had to stay down on the floor and run away.
We don’t have anything, and we are not getting anything.
We came empty-handed with our children. We are suffering, we don’t have water, we don’t have food to eat. The people of this community received us in this school where we are staying. They bring us something to eat but we often sleep with empty stomachs.
I’m suffering, I have my grandmother at my home. She is totally dependent on me and my brother was killed as there is nobody else to support me. We have been living here for a long time. Eleven months or maybe more. I have a big family. I have children, my mother, my brothers’ and sisters’ children. We are all suffering over here.
We are just people seeking work that can bring us some money, but this is meaningless given the needs we have for a family of our size. I try to go to collect some firewood to sell and bring something to my family to eat. If one goes to collect firewood, they get beaten. Tomorrow, I have to go back to work, even if I get beaten again."
