The 2016 International General Assembly took place from Friday 24 June to Sunday 26 June in Athens, Greece.

The International General Assembly (IGA) is the highest governance body within MSF. It safeguards our medical humanitarian mission and provides general and strategic orientations across the movement. The assembly is composed of two representatives from each MSF association and the MSF International President. Each representative has a single independent vote.

The IGA meets once a year, but may also meet more frequently in exceptional circumstances. Its formal powers include the endorsement of a vision guiding the implementation of MSF’s work and the provision of oversight and accountability across the movement. The IGA is also a forum for debating the current key issues and challenges faced by MSF.

Over- and misuse of antibiotics have contributed to the spread of antibiotic resistant diseases in Afghanistan. In September 2014, MSF carried out research in Ahmad Shah Baba hospital in Kabul to understand why doctors and patients tend towards over prescription and overuse of antibiotics.

يوفر مركز دراسات علم الأوبئة (Epicentre) داخل منظمة أطباء بلا حدود المعارف والخبرات في علم الأوبئة لدعم عملياتنا. يجري المركز البحوث والتدريب لدعم هدفنا المتمثل في توفير المعونة الطبية في المناطق التي يتأثر فيها الناس بالنزاع أو الأوبئة أو الكوارث أو الذين يتم استثناؤهم من الرعاية الصحية لأي سبب آخر. وعلى الرغم من أن مركز دراسات علم الأوبئة جزء من حركة منظمة أطباء بلا حدود وتموله المنظمة إلى حد كبير، إلا أنه يتمتع أيضًا بحرية متابعة مشاريع أخرى تتماشى مع مهمة المركز. epicentre.msf.org

On 15 February, in collaboration with the Turkish Medical Association, a team from Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders (MSF) donated various essential relief items to people affected by the earthquake in the city of Adiyaman in southern Türkiye.

The donated items – including hygiene kits, electrical stoves, winter undergarments, nappies and baby food – were distributed to more than 50 families at a newly established camp for earthquake survivors.

The city of Adiyaman, with a population of around 300,000, was one of the areas worst hit by the earthquake. Large numbers of buildings were damaged or are considered unsafe to return, leaving thousands of people sleeping in the open, in large camps, makeshift settlements or private cars.

As in other quake-affected areas, MSF teams are coordinating with various local organisations to provide assistance to survivors.

MSF started rolling out the new BPaLM treatment in Bombali District, Sierra Leone, in November 2022, making this shorter treatment routinely available for patients diagnosed with drug-resistant tuberculosis (DR-TB).
