A second cyclone called Emnati hit the town of Mananjary on the eastern coasts of Madagascar on 22 February. MSF teams set up emergency tents near the main hospital, partially destroyed by the first cyclone, in order to start medical consultations as soon as they can.

An inpatient department and surgical capacity make this the key reference facility for miles around, and the clinic is extremely busy every day. The project is reorienting in 2013 to put a greater emphasis on maternal health owing to the high maternal mortality in South Sudan.

In Nigeria, Lassa fever is endemic. Since 2018, our teams have been working closely with the Ministry of Health to treat patients suffering from Lassa fever.  MSF has been assisting the District Hospital of Madarounfa in the region of Maradi for years, ensuring free-of-charge and quality secondary healthcare for thousands of people. We are currently assisting the Emergency Room, paediatrics services including the newborns’ unit and the In-Patient Therapeutic Feeding Centre, and 2 isolation areas for infectious diseases.

Airstrike kills 12 people including children in south Niger

MSF teams were on hand to treat severely injured children at the the Madarounfa district hospital after an airstrike in southern Niger killed 12 people, including infants. Press Release - 21 Feb 2022
