In Mondoro, MSF distributed NFI kits and deployed medical and psychosocial assistance to displaced people fleeing attacks in the village of Bouldé.

Daily life in one of the squats near Velika Kladusa where migrans and asylum seekers stay. Migrants and asylum seekers are concentrated around Bihac and Velika Kladusa in Bosnia attempting to cross the border to Croatia. People there have to face extremely harsh living conditions and violence allegedly caused by border authorities.
MSF in collaboration with the local medical authorities provide medical and mental health services to the people living in Vucjak camp. Our medical team sees in this clinic around 30 patients per day. MSF runs another small clinic in Velika Kladusa for people who stay in squats. The main morbidities our teams are treating are wounds, skin infections, upper and lower respiratory tract infections, hypothermia and frostbites. All symptoms are results of violence and bad living conditions.

MSF teams descend the High Plateau area on their way back from Numbi.
Numbi is a small town located 2,000 meters above the sea level, in one of the most remote areas of the South Kivu province. All the provisions for the local community have to be carried on foot or delivered by motorbikes. During the rainy season roads become impassable, even for off-road vehicles.

Anka General Hospital entrance. MSF is running a 135-bed pediatric ward, mainly treating children suffering from malaria or malnutrition. Several are referred from the nearby IDPs camps. Malaria patients are treated in two separate malaria units. During the rainy season, when malaria cases are peeking, the hospital is often overbooked with patients.

The old man on the left has had a festering hole in the head for 3 years. He has had his wound cleaned and his bandage dressed every three days for a year at the Old Fangak hospital. A discussion begins between Florence (right) the medical director, the surgeon Gilles (out of frame) and Julie Malcolm Wyzyloski, the nurse of the operating room to know if a surgical intervention is desirable. The conclusion will be that there is nothing to do but cure the symptom for fear of triggering a fatal process. So far, the patient does not suffer.

The newly renovated Intensive Care unit in Sulaymaniyah Emergency Hospital was opened the 19 November after a complete reconstruction done by MSF. Sulaymaniyah Emergency Hospit is the only trauma facility in Sulaymaniyah Governorate treating all people with acute medical and surgical illness. Over the last two years, there has been a significant rise in the hospital’s catchment population (currently over 2.5 million people) due to the influx of internally displaced persons from neighbouring conflict zones. MSF has been working in Sulaymaniyah Emergency Hospital since January 2016, with the aim to reduce patient mortality rate by improving quality of care in both the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and the Emergency Department (ER). This is done through improved quality of patient care and structural renovation of the ER & ICU medical facilities.

El Ébola siguió propagándose en el noreste de República Democrática del Congo, al igual que la peor epidemia de la historia del país. Dos ciclones y unas graves inundaciones devastaron parte de Mozambique, Sudán y Sudán del Sur. El conflicto se agravó en el Sahel y en Yemen, y miles de migrantes, refugiados y solicitantes de asilo quedaron atrapados en Libia, Grecia y México, expuestos a la violencia y la enfermedad.

En agosto de 2018, las autoridades de República Democrática del Congo (RDC) confirmaron un brote de Ébola que acabaría siendo el más grave que haya conocido este país. La epidemia se propagó por las comunidades de las provincias de Kivu Norte e Ituri, que ya estaban gravemente afectadas por décadas de conflictos armados.
