“We spent several months in the basement, without light or food supplies. It was very damp there and Vanya developed a bad cough. Before leaving, we didn't even go into the house. We had our documents with us, so we just grabbed a backpack and left,” recalls Yuliia Murashkina.

Her family occupies two rooms in a shelter in Dnipro. Yuliia and her son, 12-year-old Vanya, live in one room. In the next room is Yuliia's 17-year-old daughter Kateryna and her children, 3-year-old Sasha and 2-month-old Damir.

Yuliia first left her home because of the war in 2014, when Vanya was not yet one. "I only had his rompers and a bottle of food with me. So when I had to flee for the second time in 2022, I wasn't worried about my belongings. I was only afraid that we wouldn't make it, because the previous evacuation bus had been attacked."
