Portel has dealt historically with a lack of health professionals and facilities, particularly in hard-to-reach remote areas which are home to vulnerable river dweller communities.

Syria

War has been raging in Syria for more than a decade, leaving thousands of people dead, displacing millions and destroying civilian areas and health facilities.
MSF’s Munira Gulomova conducts a mental health consultation with Akmal Uganov, 25, at his home in the city of Tursunzoda, Tajikistan. 

Uganov fell ill with tuberculosis (TB) in 2019. 

“At first, his mother got tuberculosis. She was ashamed of her illness and didn’t seek treatment. As a result, she passed away. Her father also died of tuberculosis," Dr. Maysara Shifoeva, MSF staff says.

MSF started to provide support to Uganov after the death of his parents. It included monthly medical check-ups, medication, food, and psychological support to ensure effective treatment.

Tajikistan

We are working with the Tajikistan Ministry of Health and Social Protection to diagnose and treat children with drug-resistant tuberculosis (DR-TB).
Tanzania, Nduta: Health-post, General Consultation

Tanzania

We provide assistance to Burundian refugees living in Nduta camp in the north-west of Kigoma region in Tanzania.
Mental Health Care focused on women and children.

Our teams focus on mental health care and provide other medical care as needed. Psychological support includes individual and group therapy, psychosocial education, and stress management.

Thailand

We work to provide mental health support to vulnerable communities in southern Thailand.
East Timor. Displaced family returns to their village West of Dili, with articles found in Dili's ruins.

Timor-Leste

MSF began working in what is now Timor-Leste in 1999 and closed its projects in 2002.
