Portel has dealt historically with a lack of health professionals and facilities, particularly in hard-to-reach remote areas which are home to vulnerable river dweller communities.

Libya remains fragmented by conflict and fighting continues in several parts of the country. The breakdown of law and order, the economic collapse and the existence of three governments has had a severe impact on the healthcare system.
Given the poor road infrastructure, extreme weather conditions severely limit people’s access to health centers and make it difficult for our teams to reach communities. A situation that often demotivates people to visit health centers before their condition worsens.
