MSF is supporting local authorities in order to improve healthcare access to the town’s population. Portel has dealt historically with a lack of health professionals and facilities, particularly in hard-to-reach remote areas which are home to vulnerable river dweller communities.

Since the beginning of November 2023, the Northeast of Kenya has experienced significant rainfall. The communities surrounding MSF Dagahaley Project has suffered significantly from this rainfall. More than 2700 people have relocated to 5 schools within Dagahaley, with many others taking shelter within their extended families in Dagahaley. In response, MSF launched an intervention to assist the thousands of people affected by the flooding in the County of Garissa with a specific focus on the needs of the communities in and around Dagahaley’s refugee camp. Immediate needs are with those in the schools who are without shelter from the elements, food, clean water and cooking capabilities. The risk of water-borne diseases increases as the shortage of drinking water, latrines and food continues. Additionally, the heavy rains have made roads inside the camp impassable, even for people walking on foot.

Kenya

We offer care to refugees, survivors of sexual violence and people who use drugs in Kenya, and respond to public health challenges, including HIV.
MSF midwife Esther Karume works with local community members in Abaiang to test women of child-bearing age for high blood pressure in Abaiang. Non-communicable diseases such as diabetes and hypertension are common.

Apres le debut des combats entre l’armee serbe et les forces de l’UCK en fevrier 1998, MSF a travaille aupres des populations deplacees (environ 300.000 personnes) en realisant des activites de secours (abris, nourriture, etc.) ainsi qu’un soutien medical et sanitaire sur trois regions (Pec, Prizren et Drenica).

Kosovo

MSF started working in Kosovo in 1992 and withdrew in 2000.

In Kyrgyzstan, we work on detecting breast and cervical cancers.
