Sudanese who have found refuge at the Andréssa school in Chad’s Sila province, and host communities from the surrounding villages, gather under the trees in the early hours of the morning, then rush to line up at the arrival of MSF teams to benefit from free medical care. In a region that already suffers from a glaring lack of medical infrastructure and basic services, MSF's mobile clinics are attending to a growing number of patients every day.

Polat village, Malatya area Total population of Malatya before the earthquakes was 812 thousand. 363 thousand people now live in tent cities, and around 29 thousand in containers. Earthquakes damaged 46 thousand buildings. MSF, through the local NGOs we support in Türkiye, provided mental health and psychosocial support, and distributed non food items - including hygiene kits - in rural areas of Malatya, including the Polat village, that was almost completely destroyed. We were almost the only actor to immediately respond to the needs. According to OCHA, 1,200 people have lost their lives in Malatya area, and 6,5 thousand were injured. As of the end of April, 330 thousand people had to move to other provinces, 25 thousand are refugees, and some 363 thousand people live in tent cities. Five out of six people were displaced due to the earthquakes in Malatya area.

The 293 survivors - including 146 minors - are waiting for a place of safety to disembark. Several requests were sent to responsible authorities of Italy and Malta but a positive answer always comes after many long days. The unnecessary waiting for days in these circumstances is worsening their physical and psychological conditions.

Hatay tent settlement Around 900,000 people live in informal settlements, with 200,000 in tent cities. MSF, through the local NGOs we support in Türkiye provided water and sanitation services (WASH) to several camps in sub urban areas of Hatay, including the Sofular neighborhood, Antakya, where we were the only organisation providing water and sanitation services, also offering non-food items distribution and psychosocial support to the affected people.
