In April 2010 MSF is started a measles vaccination campaign targeting 38,000 children under 5 this week at Argungu LGA (Local Government Area), Kebbi. During the campaign, 47,569 children aged 6 months to 5 years were vaccinated. The teams       
believe mobilisation of the community, which included the involvement of senior community and religious leaders, was very effective.

MSF responds to measles outbreak

Since the end of 2012, Katsina State in northern Nigeria has experienced a measles outbreak, which has just ended after lasting 28 weeks. 48-year old Linda Vilakati is one of 55 patients who have just successfully completed treatment for MDR-TB in Swaziland. Linda is a member of the first group to have completed two years of a grueling regimen for multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) at MSF’s project in Mankayane, run in partnership with Swaziland’s Ministry of Health.

Returnees are building new lives for themselves in South Sudan, but they are not the only newcomers. In the last year, over 20,000 people have arrived in Aweil North, near Sudan, to escape violence in the disputed border region and beyond. The MSF midwife Safia checks the blood pressure of Syrian refugee patient. The woman is nine months pregnant of her second baby and had only done one check up in Syria during the early stage of her pregnancy. She has arrived very recenty to Lebanon and is still unregistered as a refugee. She is very close to delivery and MSF midwife gave her all the useful information about where to go to deliver.

Al-Salam Hospital in Khamer, Amran governorate where MSF manages operates. The town of Khamer is a very humble one where people depend on agriculture, handicrafts and trade in earning their living. It is a mountainous area that the hospital is the only one in the area. There is only another one public hospital in the entire governorate of Amran consisting of 20 districts. <br/>In Khamer, Amran governorate, MSF manages the maternity, paedatric, surgical and emergency departments of Al-Salam hospital, where it employs 140 Yemeni staff and treats an average of 1500 patients per month, free of charge.

Yemen is a country of transit for the thousands of migrants who leave the Horn of Africa to try to get to the countries of the Arabian Peninsula, mainly from Ethiopia to Saudi Arabia. During the trip and especially in Yemen, these people are victims of traffickers who extort money from them and torture them. Last April, the Yemeni authorities carried out a campaign to release hundreds of migrants held by traffickers and begin to repatriate them to their home countries. Since then, the number of people who voluntarily approach the detention center for migrants seeking repatriation has greatly increased.
The detention center in Sana'a, Yemen's capital, has a maximum capacity of 200-250; the centre currently houses about 750.
