MSF’s emergency response has shown the high medical and humanitarian needs amongst new arrivals. During our interventions, most people we assist are exhausted and severely distressed. A lot of them are dehydrated after spending a long time, sometimes several days, in the bush without access to food and water.

In the camps of Bulengo and Lushagala, MSF teams have installed two clinics named Tumaini (“Hope” in Swahili) to provide free and confidential medical and psychological support to women. Women of all ages come to the clinic, survivors of sexual violence but also to access family planning, seek psychological advice or treat sexually transmitted diseases.

In 2022, MSF open a biosafety level 3 laboratory in Zhytomyr, Ukraine, for the testing of mycobacterium tuberculosis. In November 2023, MSF handed over the laboratory to the Ukraine Ministry of Health.

The mycobacterium tuberculosis culture is tested against different antibiotics in the laboratory. Wearing protection is mandatory for workers during this procedure.
