Sign in front MSF Base in Pinga, Democratic Republic of Congo where MSF has been working since February 2013. In Pinga, a small town in the North Kivu province of the Democratic Republic of Congo, MSF provides medical care to people affected by conflict while trying to reach those cut off from assistance by insecurity. At present, (August 2013) all medical activities in Pinga and its immediate surroundings have been suspended after increasing insecurity and threats to humanitarian workers.

On 20 January 2015, the hospital managed by MSF in Frandala village, South Kordofan region in the Nuba Mountains, has been directly targeted during a bombing lead by Sudanese Air Force (SAF). This is one of the indiscriminate bombing occurring regularly in South Kordofan in the war between Khartoum Authorities and the rebels groups in the Nuba Mountains. The Frandala hospital was previously bombed on 16 June, 2014. That attack took place despite Sudanese government’s knowledge of the MSF presence.

Following an attack in Kamango village in DRC the 11th of July around 50000 people fled and crossed the border to take refuge in Uganda along the border. Most of refugees stayed at bordering areas within the hosting community and in a transit camp called Bubukwanga, 18 km from the Congolese border (close to Bundibugyo town) where 17000 have been registered by the UNHCR. MSF team has started an emergency intervention in the Transit Centre of Bubukwanga since 18th of July : OPD (300 consultations per day (malaria, Acute respiratory infection, water diarrheas, malnutrition), IDP (30 beds), measle vaccination etc + water supply and sanitation.

Our teams are made up of tens of thousands of health professionals, logistic and administrative staff - most of them hired locally. Our actions are guided by medical ethics and the principles of independence and impartiality. We are a non-profit, self-governed, member-based organisation.
