MSF resumes activities in Melut amid challenges to access the population in parts of Upper Nile state

MSF has resumed activities in Melut, Upper Nile state, 16 days after renewed fighting in mid-May forced the organisation to suspend medical activities and evacuate staff. The ongoing conflict and recurrent periods of shelling in Malakal and Melut are still making it difficult both for MSF teams to access the population to provide medical assistance and for populations to access healthcare facilities. MSF is carrying out an oral cholera vaccination campaign in Nyaragusurefugee camp in Tanzania for 56,000 Burundian refugees. A cholera outbreak began among the refugees in mid-May. As at 22 June, some 3,086 cases and 34 deaths have been reported in Tanzania.

MSF to carry out oral cholera vaccination for Burundian and Congolese refugees

115,000 refugees to be vaccinated against cholera this month. "Although the number of cholera cases is low at the moment, another influx of people from Burundi could put further strain on existing services, and the risk of another outbreak remains high.” says MSF Emergency Coordinator. MSF mobile clinic in Forkouloum. Forkouloum is a village located few kilometers from Ngouboua which have been attacked by Boko Haram in February. Many people are displaced in the area and this mobile clinic is their only way to have healthcare. Each week MSF make 850 consultations mainly for diahhreoa and respiratory infections.

Due to the conflict in Nigeria and the regular attacks around Lake Chad, there are today more than 1.5 million displaced people in the region looking for safety. Project Update - 19 Jun 2015
 
Even today, people are still displaced on a daily basis.  Since the crisis began, the organization’s health care providers have seen more than 33,000 patients, performed more than 200 surgeries and 90 Caesarean sections, and delivered an additional 130 babies.

A new project for victims of violence in Boga

MSF launched a new project with local partners in Boga focusing principally on reproductive health, the medical and psychological treatment of victims of violence. Project Update - 17 Jun 2015

MSF provides psychological support in Sicily to help monitor migrants, refugees and asylum seekers, as often the difficulties of the journey to Europe can lead to various psychological issues.

MSF provides psychological first aid to survivors of fatal sea crossing

On Sunday 31 May, MSF provided emergency psychological support to 18 out of 454 migrants who had been rescued at sea. Early Monday morning, the MSF Bourbon Argos rescued 325 more people from three different boats. Project Update - 3 Jun 2015

The Situation in Lugansk

One year after fighting broke out in eastern Ukraine, people living in the heavily affected Lugansk region are trying to slowly get life back to a sense of normality. Schools have reopened and teams of residents have come out on the first days of spring to sweep the debris of war in the streets. However, with the healthcare system under intense strain and medical supply lines cut or severely disrupted since last summer, people continue to struggle to access basic healthcare and medicines.
