Democratic Republic of Congo

Dozens wounded during violent fighting in North Kivu

Violent fighting broke out on 24 and 25 July in Rutshuru Territory. Sporadic fighting has been underway between the Congolese army and armed rebel groups in Rutshuru Territory since May. MSF teams working in the Rutshuru hospital have treated 66 wounded people so far. A majority of the wounded were civilians. Fighting has also displaced several thousand people. A political crisis has divided Mali since the end of January 2012. Fear of being caught in the cross-fire, insecurity and the food crisis have driven more than 300,000 Malians to flee the country for neighboring nations. Repercussions of the conflict in Kivu

The population of the Kivu provinces in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo is fighting an incessant war of survival, not only against the bullets flying in the latest peak of this long-running conflict but also against the vacuum of infrastructure and health resources. Somalia

Project for Somali refugees in Ethiopia handed over

MSF has handed over one of its largest projects for Somali refugees in Ethiopia. The number of refugees crossing the border has significantly gone down since the large humanitarian crisis of 2011. MSF initiated the project in the Hiloweyn camp, one of the five refugee camps near to the border between Ethiopia and Somalia, in August 2011, at the height of the crisis. Food insecurity threatens as thousands of Malian refugees gather in desert

More than 28,000 Malian refugees have been forced to seek refuge in the border region of Mauritania following the conflict between the Malian army and Tuareg rebels that broke out in northern Mali last month. About the Novartis Drop the Case campaign

In 2006 the drug company Novartis took the Indian government to court over its patent law, in a move that threatened access to affordable medicines produced in India for millions of people across the developing world. The company wanted to get the law changed so that they could more easily extend the patents on their products, and stop generic companies producing the same medicines at a fraction of the price.
