The Oaxaca Health Secretariat has initiated Chagas diagnosis and treatment activities in collaboration with Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) in Santa María Tonameca Municipality, Oaxaca State, Mexico. The 43,000 inhabitants in San Pedro Pochutla and Mazunte towns now have access to medical care for Chagas in primary healthcare facilities.

August 2012, in the village of Karangasso, district of Koutiala, Mali. For the first time, MSF is rolling out a large-scale in-situ strategy for the preventive treatment of malaria, called seasonal malaria chemoprevention (SMC), in a pilot projects in Mali.  Antimalarial treatments have been administered to some 165,000 children aged between 3 months and 5 years old. The initial results are highly encouraging, with a 65% drop in the number of malaria cases. Furthermore, the number of malaria-associated hospitalisations plummeted from 228 to 70 per week.

 *** Local Caption ***Heavy rains and a storm on August 24 have caused serious damages in Lietchuor camp, host to around 36,000 South Sudanese refugees in Gambella region. Shelters were blown down and the road, built on a strip of elevated land, is the only remaining inhabitable area. MSF's hospital , maternity and ITFC, all set up in tents, (107 beds in total) and the clinic continue to operate because the ground level was previously raised with earth. 
MSF's hospital (120 beds) in Itang, near Kule and Tierkidi camps, has been also  flooded. Some patients were transferred to other tents, while others have been referred to other health facilities.

At present, (August 2013) all medical activities in Pinga and its immediate surroundings have been suspended after increasing insecurity and threats to humanitarian workers.
