On April 19th 2011, 760 migrants have arrived from Libya after travelling for three days on an old fishing boat. Among the passengers, MSF counted seven children, 63 women; one of them pregnant. The majority of the migrants are originally from sub-Saharan Africa. This is the biggest boat landing ever occuring in Lampedusa. An MSF team consisting of a medical doctor, a nurse, two cultural mediators, a logistician and a field coordinator performs medical triage in the harbour and distributes non food items and water to the newly arrived migrants.

Dr Joanne Liu and Dr Abdulmalik Kabu Abana discuss a patient during their daily round in the feeding centre. In Gwange, a district in Maiduguri, MSF runs an inpatient therapeutic feeding centre (ITFC) with a 110-bed capacity. The ITFC is under tents, in the compound of the Ministry of Health-run health centre. Around 150 patients are admitted monthly. To compensate for the lack of food, we started in late September 2016 to provide family food rations to each child admitted in the ITFC.

Thousands suffering neurotoxic symptoms treated in hospitals supported by MSF

Three hospitals in Syria's Damascus governorate that are supported by MSF have reported that they received approximately 3,600 patients displaying neurotoxic symptoms in less than three hours on the morning of Wednesday, August 21, 2013. Press Release - 24 Aug 2013
