Bahrain

MSF condemns armed raid on its office and detention of its staff in Bahrain

MSF condemns an armed raid on its premises in Bahrain and the subsequent detention of one of its staff members. It now appears that, in Bahrain today, acting within the common boundaries of the duty of care principle — in this case, providing first aid and calling an ambulance for a critically ill person — is no longer possible without negative repercussions on MSF’s ability to work in the country. MSF calls on the Bahraini authorities to respect the integrity, security, and privacy of its premises and personnel, and to allow the lawyer and family of its detained staff immediate access to him. After three-month siege in Libya, trauma surgery and training dominate MSF activities

MSF has begun working with Libyan medical teams at the advanced medical posts set up close to the front lines to stabilize the wounded before transferring them to a hospital... During lunch breaks, one MSF surgeon, using a USB stick containing extensive information and videos, demonstrated how he had provided initial trauma management and organize surgical treatment to an audience of approximately 40 Kasr Ahmed hospital staff, including surgeons, doctors, anesthetists and medical students. Between 800-1000 African migrants and refugees take refuge at a port on the outskirts of Tripoli. MSF has opened a mobile clinic at the location.
Many have been there since the begining of the conflict, living in fear of violence against people with black skin. Some have been robbed of money and all identity papers.
