The living conditions in the Majak Aher IDP camp is very difficult, because with the arrival of the 40,000 displaced people from Agok, the food, that was not fully available for the host communities, was inexistant for the IDPs. The shelter where they live is made of some plastic sheeting that was distributed on the arrival but didn’t reach everybody. And it does not protect from the heavy rain of the rainy season, and the whole camp is mud. For the IDPs who don’t have something to sell, the situation is even worse. The people living in Majak Aher fled from the villages around Agok (28 villages in total) and now, the camp is divided in portion that has the same name of the villages they are from. When they arrived, they settled in Turalei, near the market and the river. But then, as space was missing, the government gave a land to the IDPs to settle. There was a registration by IOM, (but again, not everybody is registered, which is a big problem to receive the food during current distribution), and distribution of plastic sheeting, jerrycans, and sugar two quantities/families. And MSF also distributed food and non-food items including blankets. After the emergency phase when MSF handed over the distribution activities, in December, there was some irregular distribution since then. Last one was in March 15, two measures of sugar, which does not last long for a family.

BEFORE THE APRIL 15, 2023, ESCALATION. In 2020 MSF upgraded the so-called rural hospital to a secondary healthcare facility in Rokero town. We manage the inpatient department (IPD), the emergency room (ER), the ITFC, the maternity and delivery and paediatric wards and the observation room. We build new ER, maternity, paediatric wards, observation room and ITFC. It is the only secondary healthcare facility in the locality in north Jebel Marra, patients were moved there in late March early April 2023.

On December 4, at nightfall, the MSF team conducted the first rescue of rotation 20. 74 people were on board of an overcrowded rubber boat in distress in international waters off the Libyan coast. Everyone arrived safely aboard Geo Barents despite being weak after spending 15 hours at sea amid adverse weather conditions.

Dalila, 29, and her six-month-old daughter, Blandina, are living at the “Senda de Vida” migrant shelter in Reynosa, Mexico. Dalila left Haiti in 2017 and spent over four years in Chile until she and her husband decided to seek safety and dignity in the United States. Dalila was pregnant as they traveled through several countries, and she gave birth to Blandina when they crossed the border into southern Mexico.

Heavy wind and rain have destroyed a number of shelters across Umm Rakouba and Tanideba. These storms also ruined peoples stored food and caused flooding of or destruction of latrines. The poor sanitation and hygiene conditions in the camps are leading to an increase in cases of diarrhea, as well as an outbreak of hepatitis e, which is spread through contaminated food or water.
