The medical-humanitarian organization Medecins Sans Frontiers (MSF) is sending an exploratory team to assess the needs of the victims after an earthquake of 8.8 magnitude struck Chile early Saturday morning, February 27, causing serious damages in several areas of the country. The MSF team including a doctor, a nurse, and logisticians coming from Argentina, Bolivia and Panama, is being deployed to Chile in order to better evaluate the needs of the population. The team from Argentina should arrive tonight to the capital of the country, Santiago de Chile, crossing through the neighboring Argentine province of Mendoza. For the moment, MSF does not have further direct information of the current situation in the most affected areas, but a staff member of MSF is already in Santiago and compiling information.
