Deplorable reception conditions for migrants on Kos island EN

Since the beginning of the year 46.000 people arrived by sea to Greece, fleeing war, poverty and violence in their home countries. 12.000 arrived in the Dodecanese islands, the only entry door in Europe for asylum seekers where there is no reception system in place. In Kos island, MSF provides medical care and water and sanitation support in the Captain Elias hotel, a disused, dilapidated hotel where migrants are directed to stay by the authorities while awaiting permission from police to leave the island. The hotel is lacking basic facilities and hygienic and safety conditions are precarious.
