Moscow/Amsterdam - MSF is shocked by the news of two brutal murders of doctors working in Grozny, the capital of Chechnya. The doctors both worked in the cardiology department in Hospital #9 in Grozny.

MSF has supported the hospital for many years and at this time there is a team of five national staff working there. On March 28, the bodies of the two doctors were found in their car. They had been shot. The motive of the murders is not yet known.

MSF sympathizes with the family, colleagues and friends of the victims. MSF is very concerned about the increase of violence in the region. The organisation had already suspended its non-lifesaving activities in Chechnya and all activities in the neighbouring Republic of Dagestan. In Ingushetia MSF is providing help to displaced Chechens.
