11 January 2012 — Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) concluded a physiotherapists’ training project in partnership with the Gaza health authority.
The joint training program in the field of burn cases rehabilitation was a result of constant efforts of MSF and the Gaza health authority physical therapy and rehabilitation unit, in order to enhance specialists’ skills, so that patients are provided with an elective physiotherapeutic care such as splints, facial masks, and pressure garments, helping the patients to face medical, social and psychological heavy consequences of burns.
Physiotherapists received six months of theoretical and practical training at MSF's postoperative clinic in Gaza. The three specialised burns units in the Gaza Strip (Shifa hospital in Gaza, Nasser hospital in Khan Younis and the Sheikh Redwan primary healthcare centre) were equipped with medical instruments and other supplies.
Training certificates were distributed to the six physiotherapists from Gaza health authority during a ceremony gathering Gaza local authority representatives, WHO, UNRWA, local and International NGOs.
