Commune of Ranobe, Amboasary District. People in the south-east of Madagascar are facing the most acute nutritional and food crisis the region has seen in recent years. MSF began setting up mobile clinics in Amboasary district in late March to screen and treat acute malnutrition in remote villages like those of Ranobe commune, providing ready-to-use therapeutic food and medical care.

In this photo taken on March 17th, staff in MSF’s hospital in Azaz district, Aleppo governorate, northern Syria, disinfect a patient’s wound in. On April 18th MSF warned that the situation was critical for more than 100,000 people who were trapped by renewed fighting in the area, and called on all warring parties to respect civilians and health structures.

A new mother performs skin-to-skin care, which helps her pre-term baby grow by keeping it warm, promoting breastfeeding and bonding, and reducing the risk of infection. Une mère pratique la technique « peau à peau » pour favoriser la croissance de son nouveau-né prématuré, en le maintenant au chaud. Nurturing premature babies with their mothers’ embrace

Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC), or skin-to-skin care, is highly valued as a therapy that can benefit both mother and child. Dr Nikola Morton, paediatrician, and Laura Acheson, a neonatal nurse, were both passionate about consolidating skin-to-skin practice in Dasht-e-Barchi. Between August and November 2015, MSF and the Ministry of Health of Mali launched a chemoprevention campaign against seasonal malaria, the leading cause of infant mortality in the country, which reached more than 45,000 children between three months and five years old in the Ansongo district, in the Gao region in the north of the country. During the campaign, MSF took the chance to complete the children’s vaccination records.
