We set up the MSF Access Campaign in 1999 to push for access to, and the development of, life-saving and life-prolonging medicines, diagnostic tests and vaccines for people in our programmes and beyond.

Neglected diseases

Combating tropical diseases: What is still missing

The Gates Foundation-hosted conference held in London today, ‘Uniting To Combat Tropical Diseases’, draws attention to devastating tropical illnesses that have been neglected for too long. However, the ambitious goals to eliminate or control ten neglected tropical diseases will only be credible when some critical remaining gaps are filled, according to the international medical humanitarian organisation Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF). Libya

Detainees tortured and denied medical care

MSF teams began working in Misrata’s detention centres in August 2011, to treat war-wounded detainees. Since then, MSF doctors were increasingly confronted with patients who suffered injuries caused by torture during interrogation sessions. The interrogations were held outside the detention centres. In total, MSF treated 115 people who had torture-related wounds and reported all the cases to the relevant authorities in Misrata. In the state of Jonglei, South Sudan, civilians continue to bear the brunt of inter-communal fighting. Wounded patients are still arriving at the MSF hospital in Pibor, three weeks after the violent attack on the town and outlying villages. HIV/AIDS

MSF pays tribute to the people fighting HIV/AIDS in Africa and launches 'Positive Generation: Voices for an AIDS-free future'

The aim of this project is to raise awareness about the reality of HIV/AIDS in sub-Saharan Africa by highlighting how people on treatment can still live a ‘positive’ life. It also shows the importance of prevention of mother-to-child transmission programs and warns about the consequences of the current funding shortfalls on the lives of thousands of patients. Egypt

MSF provides medical supplies to five hospitals

A team from Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) has been visiting Tahrir Square on an almost daily basis, and is in contact with Egyptian healthcare professionals who are working in the field hospitals, as well as with the public hospitals which are receiving the bulk of the casualties.
