Oppressive uncertainty for displaced people in South Darfur

With the majority of IDP camps at maximum capacity, increasing numbers of IDPs are forced to find shelter and assistance in urban areas where, without proper planning, these settlements often lack basic services. MSF firmly believes that the resettlement of these people should be voluntary and it must be a sustainable thought-out solution that ensures they can begin to build a new life. Democratic Republic of Congo

Cholera and malnutrition add to the extreme suffering in North Kivu, DRC

Access to health care for these people was already weak, but is even more limited today. The fighting has forced several aid organisations to suspend their activities, and health centres are not getting any supplies, or are deserted by the medical staff. Displaced people cannot farm their land or access their food stocks, meaning that displaced people lose their only means of subsistence. Press Release - 19 Dec 2007

Yemen

As people flee Somalia and Ethiopia, 56 dead are found on the shores of Yemen

During the voyage, the passengers had no food or water. There were at least 20 people - all Ethiopians - in the hull of the boat. At least four people died during the trip due to the very hard conditions. Project Update - 17 Dec 2007

Angola

The Angolan Government must put an end to the abuses committed by its army against Congolese migrants during their expulsion from the country

MSF teams arrived in Western Kasa, a Congolese province bordering Angola, in October and are providing care to victims of sexual violence. They have also collected 100 testimonies exposing collective rape and physical abuse widely perpetrated by the Angolan military. Press Release - 5 Dec 2007

People with AIDS in southeast Asia needlessly becoming blind due to a neglected virus

"This is a classic case of the vicious circle," said Dr. Tido von Schoen-Angerer, Director of the MSF Campaign for Access to Essential Medicines. "Because the price of the drug is so high, HIV programmes aren't screening and therefore are not reporting large numbers of CMV patients.
