We set up the MSF Access Campaign in 1999 to push for access to, and the development of, life-saving and life-prolonging medicines, diagnostic tests and vaccines for people in our programmes and beyond.

Innovative measures to ensure AIDS and TB treatment during Kenya's post-election violence

Special times call for special measures and 290 patients have missed their appointments in the first two weeks of the year. A free hotline has been set up and advertised in newspapers countrywide. Bundibugyo, Uganda, now ebola free

The total number of cases was 149 with 37 deaths which gives a mortality rate of 25 percent. Of the ebola cases, 12 Uganda medical staff were amongst the patients and five of them died in the epidemic. Project Update - 16 Jan 2008

Cholera and malnutrition add to the extreme suffering in North Kivu, DRC

Access to health care for these people was already weak, but is even more limited today. The fighting has forced several aid organisations to suspend their activities, and health centres are not getting any supplies, or are deserted by the medical staff. Neglected diseases

People with AIDS in southeast Asia needlessly becoming blind due to a neglected virus

"This is a classic case of the vicious circle," said Dr. Tido von Schoen-Angerer, Director of the MSF Campaign for Access to Essential Medicines. "Because the price of the drug is so high, HIV programmes aren't screening and therefore are not reporting large numbers of CMV patients. But since on paper there are so few patients, bringing down the price of this treatment and ensuring its availability has never been a priority." Press Release - 30 Nov 2007
