We set up the MSF Access Campaign in 1999 to push for access to, and the development of, life-saving and life-prolonging medicines, diagnostic tests and vaccines for people in our programmes and beyond.

Mauritania

Food insecurity threatens as thousands of Malian refugees gather in desert

More than 28,000 Malian refugees have been forced to seek refuge in the border region of Mauritania following the conflict between the Malian army and Tuareg rebels that broke out in northern Mali last month. Some refugees travelled days without sustenance to get to makeshift camps in Fassala and Mbéré in the south east of Mauritania. Project Update - 29 Feb 2012

Chad

Preventing another cholera epidemic

A cholera epidemic in Chad in 2010-2011 was the largest to hit the country in the last 15 years, with more than 17, 000 registered cases. Over the last year, MSF treated more than 12,700 patients – approximately three quarters of all the cases in the country. HIV/AIDS

MSF pays tribute to the people fighting HIV/AIDS in Africa and launches 'Positive Generation: Voices for an AIDS-free future'

The aim of this project is to raise awareness about the reality of HIV/AIDS in sub-Saharan Africa by highlighting how people on treatment can still live a ‘positive’ life. It also shows the importance of prevention of mother-to-child transmission programs and warns about the consequences of the current funding shortfalls on the lives of thousands of patients. Majority of patients with suspect Zidolam-N receive follow-up consultations

MSF has followed-up nearly 3,000 of the HIV/AIDS patients who received antiretroviral drugs (ARVs) from falsified batches and provided them with replacement ARVs. Cholera

Cholera epidemic - MSF supports overwhelmed local health authorities

A cholera epidemic has spread across all districts of Cameroon’s economic capital, Douala, home to 2.1 million people. The epidemic, which was officially declared 14 months ago, in September 2010, has peaked and troughed a number of times. In March and April, during the short rainy season, cholera peaked with an average of 120 cases per week. But since September the number of cases has been increasing further, with more than 400 cases per week reported in mid-October. Project Update - 28 Nov 2011
