We set up the MSF Access Campaign in 1999 to push for access to, and the development of, life-saving and life-prolonging medicines, diagnostic tests and vaccines for people in our programmes and beyond.

MSF brings medicines and basic care to a remote area in the north-eastern province of Vakaga

“When we arrived the first week of September we found a very precarious situation as regards healthcare,” said the MSF's head of the medical intervention, Chiara Domenichini. “The community provided us with mortality data that were very alarming, more than twice what is considered an emergency situation.” MSF's emergency team in CAR has carried out a brief intervention in the remote north-eastern province of Vakaga, where humanitarian aid has been scarce despite the clear effects of years of conflict and displacement and the shortage of health resources in the area, which is home to about 70,000 people. Cholera spreads in displaced persons camps in Borno State

The first cases of cholera appeared one month ago in the internally displaced persons (IDP) camps in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, which is sheltering more than 1.6 million displaced persons. MSF welcomed the return to their homes of 400 displaced people who found refuge in Berberati bishop's ground. "After a year and a half living in precarious conditions and cut off from the outside world, these families can finally return home," said Geraldine Duc, MSF’s medical coordinator.
