The planned return of displaced people from Sake to Goma has already started. After the DRC government announcement on the 7th June that it would facilitate the gradual return to Goma of the population displaced by Nyiragongo eruption, thousands of people prepared themselves to go back home. The plan is to take back people who were sheltered in Sake on 8th and 9th June. After that, people displaced in other villages will be contemplated by the return program.
Authorities made buses and trucks available to take people back to the provincial capital of North Kivu. The ones that could take something with them during their escape after Nyiragongo eruption go back with mattresses and bundles of clothes. However, many people fled with nothing. Many of them are women and kids.
Some people who had their houses destroyed by the lava and seismic activity after the eruption preferred to stay in Sake. They will receive support from the government.
