Since 2022, MSF has been offering emergency medical care to people trapped in the forested areas between Poland and Belarus. Our teams provide first aid for violence-related injuries, frostbite, hypothermia, and other health conditions resulting from prolonged exposure to harsh environments.
In addition, we organise emergency referrals and follow-up in close cooperation with other organisations and civil society groups.
Advocacy is an important component of our work in Poland. In 2025, we raised concerns over new legislation that suspended the right to asylum, warning the Polish government and European Union institutions of the adverse consequences that this will have on people’s health and safety. MSF continues to call for an end to pushbacks, restoration of the right to claim asylum, and for better treatment and protection of asylum seekers in Poland.
Since 2022, we have been supporting refugees who have crossed into Poland since the war in Ukraine escalated. We work with local authorities and international partners to ensure continuity of care for those with TB, linking them to appropriate medical facilities, and providing psychological and social support. For example, we refer patients that need specialised mental health care, provide temporary accommodation and cash assistance for essential needs after they are medically discharged, and refer them to specialised organisations for legal and administrative support.
