Heavy fighting in Bangui : MSF receives 31 new wounded at the General Hospital
The MSF teams based in the General Hospital have received 31 wounded in a single day and are working hard to deal with the high influx of injured. Our teams have been stretched to their limit and referred some cases to the Hopital Communautaire.
“All the injured displayed gunshot wounds. Ten critically wounded patients will receive surgery today”, says MSF Deputy Head of Mission, Claude Cafardy.
Gunshots, artillery and shelling continue to be heard in Bangui today.
As a result of the violence, our team in the PK5 health centre has been forced to suspend medical activities and seek shelter in the safe room before being evacuated.
MSF teams composed of 19 expatriates and 240 Central African staff work in the emergency and surgical department of the hospital.
