Responding to war in Ukraine

MSF left Vietnam in 1998 and returned in 2003 for the SARS epidemic.

MSF provided support to communities in Vietnam between 1990 and 1998, briefly returning in 2003 to assist in the response to SARS.

When refugees from the Vietnam war, who were living in Thailand, Malaysia, and Hong Kong, began returning home to Vietnam in 1990, we provided technical assistance in multiple regions across the country that included restructuring health systems, training doctors and pharmacists, and ensuring sufficient medicine distributions. MSF continued to work in Vietnam in similar capacities until 1998, when we responded to flooding in Quang Nam province.

We returned to assist in the response to the SARS epidemic in 2003, providing mental health consultations to patients and training hospital staff in infection prevention and control measures.
