There are still people under the rubble and the number of dead, mainly children, is rising (now they are around 60 people).
Port au Prince - Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) teams in Port-au-Prince, the capital of Haiti, have been providing emergency care and treatment to people injured in the collapse of La Promesse School in the Petionville neighborhood of the city since early Friday.
(Information updated) So far 157 injured people have been rescued from the rubble of the school that collapsedin Port-au-Prince on Friday; half were received at MSF structures, either at Trinité hospital or the clinic in Martissant. There are still people under the rubble and the number of dead, mainly children, is rising (now they are around 60 people).
Of the more than 50 patients admitted to the emergency ward at Trinite Trauma Center so far, 25 have been hospitalized and four have undergone surgery. Eight patients have died. More than 30 patients have been admitted to Martissant Hospital, where MSF also works.
While MSF teams standby to receive and treat additional patients, transporting survivors from the site of the collapsed school to medical facilities remains difficult due to poor and congested roads.
