Norwegian photographer, Espen Rasmussen, went to North-Kivu, DRC, in October this year as part of a photo project on refugees and internally displaced people. He describes what he saw while in the field in this "sound slide" gallery.
"As a photographer, when you find yourself in places like this, it can be good to take pictures which should have an impact on people living in western countries; that's kind of our mission as photographers in the field. To take pictures and make people react. So then one tries to look for reference points, things that people in western countries recognize. That is what I was doing when I took this picture of this shirt. Something perhaps your child might wear. Only here you really can see the way these people are living."
