Symphony Program SAP HR/HCM - Data Manager

Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international, independent, medical humanitarian organisation that delivers emergency aid to people affected by armed conflict, epidemics, healthcare exclusion and natural disasters. MSF offers assistance to people based only on need and irrespective of race, religion, gender or political affiliation.

MSF International is the legal entity that binds MSF’s 21 sections, 24 associations and other offices together (the Movement). Based in Geneva, MSF International provides coordination, information and support to the MSF Movement, as well as implements international projects and initiatives as requested. MSF International also provides administrative support to the MSF Access Campaign.


MSF is embarking on a global HRIS project of design, development and integration of HR systems and processes across 24 MSF recruitment offices.

In the preliminary phase of the project, a feasibility study was carried out, functional and technical requirements defined and a HRIS solution identified. The project is now entering the implementation phase aiming at realizing the solution with SAP HCM / e-Rec and deploying it in the MSF offices and is enlarging the project team to carry out this international project.


Inside the MSF International Office you will be a member of the Symphony Program Team, you can be either based in Paris or in another MSF Hub location and you will report directly to the Symphony Technical Lead. You will need to actively interact with all MSF HR and IT actors in all sections.


MSF is embarking on a global HRIS project of design, development and integration of HR systems and processes across 24 MSF recruitment offices. The selected global HRIS platform is SAP HR/HCM with e-Rec. Data management is a key success factors both in the implementation phase as well as in the future maintenance of the system and therefore requires a full time position within the team.


Master Data management:

  • Finalize and contribute to the setup of SAP HR master data organization within MSF
  • Organize the maintenance of SAP HR master data within MSF
  • Coordinate master data implementation in relation with local team
  • Develop guidelines for data quality assurance post migration

Data quality:

  • Perform initial Data Quality Assessment (interviews, inventory of data, etc.)
  • Define clean up data strategy and enhancements to prevent recurring data quality issues
  • Create guidelines of Data Quality for further implementations
  • Collect best practices and lessons learnt for further waves of data import/export.
  • Assist user needs linked to data extraction from disparate databases
  • Develop and maintain data transformation scripts to be used in the project, to minimize manual interventions
  • Where necessary, perform data cleansing and post cleansing validation

Data migration:

  • Review and provide input to data migration strategy  
  • Manage some legacy data that will not be loaded into SAP (archiving)
  • Review migration templates provided by  the Integrator
  • Build inventory of HR data (maintain data model documentation, data translation, data dictionary)
  • Coordinate all data cleaning works needed with the local team in each country where the system is deployed (extract of data, data)
  • Where applicable, transform data during data migration cycles
  • Coordinate data migration works with the local team in each country where the system is deployed (local data migration strategy, mapping, data load, migration testing).
  • Coordinate data load cycles with Systems Integrator
  • Review existing ETL technologies and provide recommendations for improving migration process
  • Agree in conjunction with system integrator post migration validation procedures
  • Relationship management with software vendors, contractors and service providers

Data Privacy / Data protection

  • In coordination with an external legal advisor, be the gatekeeper and ensure implementation of all country specifics rules regarding data privacy and data protection.


We are looking for a motivated, co-operative and experienced Data Manager, who is well acquainted with SAP HR / HCM and eager to jump in to the new role.

The candidate will have experience and a deep knowledge on SAP HR master data.

Strong written and verbal communication in English and in French, presentation and diplomacy skills, client service and technical writing skills, coupled with a genuine interest in, understanding of, and commitment to the humanitarian principles and challenges of MSF.

Demonstrated teamwork collaboration in a professional setting with experience leading remote teams.

Strong work ethic coupled with strong analytical and problem solving skills, demonstrated history of successful SAP project implementation within large and complex companies. Willingness to travel (50%) to meet MSF internal client needs.
