A cease-fire in Gaza was declared on August 26, after 50 days of "protective edge" operation, which began July 8, 2014. In addition to the material destruction, the death toll is particularly heavy with more than 2,000 casualties, including about a quarter of children, and more than 10,000 wounded.
Medical needs remain very high, especially in terms of postoperative care, rehabilitation and mental health. MSF supports the burn unit of Al-Shifa Hospital and runs a postoperative care clinic in central Gaza.
