Photo of the Week: Heavy rain in M’Poko camp, CAR

Nearly 60,000 people who fled violence have been seeking shelter in the M’Poko camp near Bangui airport.Heavy rains have exacerbated the sanitary conditions in the camp. MSF has set up a field hospital with 60 beds and three health posts to cover the medical needs of the displaced people. Teams are carrying out approximately 1,000 consultations and assisting 10 deliveries each day. Since the beginning of the year MSF has treated more than 600 people wounded due to the violence.

As rainy season approaches, conditions in the camp are likely to get worse. MSF is providing water and sanitation services including the construction of 216 latrines and supplying up to 600 cubic metres of water a day. Teams are treating patients for malaria, diarrhoea, respiratory infections and skin disease linked to poor sanitarian conditions.
