Paraguay 1998

Severe floods injure the poorest An MSF emergency team intervened in Paraguay in January 1998 with a three-month mission on behalf of around 30,000 people, mainly from among the poorest members of the population, made homeless by floods. MSF donated drugs, medical supplies and plastic sheeting and ran training courses for a selected number of community health workers, who then passed on information to those affected. A water and sanitation project provided pumps and built latrine and shower units. The team concentrated on camps for the homeless in AsunciÃ?³n, ConcepciÃ?³n, Alto Paraguay and Pilar, where material could only be brought in by boat.
