Malnutrition from crop failures Three consecutive years of bad harvests led to an emergency medico-nutritional intervention by MSF in March 1997, in Tanout, Zinder department in the north of Niger. Focusing on feeding programmes for moderately and severely malnourished children, MSF provided training and supervision for personnel and was involved in the construction or renovation of shelters for supplementary and therapeutic feeding activities. The team's assistance also included vaccination and logistical help. By the end of June 1998, the feeding centres were operating independently.
