Brazzaville - Medical teams from Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) have resumed their activities in three districts within the Republic of Congo's southern Pool region, the organization has announced.

MSF staff returned to the towns of Kindamba, Mindouli and Vindza after the teams received assurances from the local authorities on the safety of humanitarian workers.

MSF provides medical care in three hospitals and nine health posts located in Kindamba, Mindouli, Vindza and Kinkala. The teams also give emergency obstetrical care and treatment for patients with tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS. Mobile teams offer screening and treatment for patients with sleeping sickness in eastern parts of the country bordering the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

MSF has been working in the Pool region since 2003.
